ELA- READING - ELA- READING- FAST Phonics and Reading Comprehension Skills
-
Students will continue working in FAST Phonics or Edmark Sight Words during Q-3. Various leveled texts will be offered to improve reading comprehension of fiction (Unique Curriculum, A-Z books) and non-fiction (Edhelper texts, A-Z books, News2You current events). We will return to POWER READING in November for Group 2. We will review strategies for identifying the main idea and supporting details in Q-1 and also identifying features of informational text.
WEEKLY HOMEWORK: Go on RAZ KIDS and practice reading the assigned story to increase fluency.
Students are corruently working to determine the author's purpose in fiction and non-fiction texts. RAZ Kids books are assigned every 2 weeks. Students use Text Time passages and nonfiction task cards to identify the text structure used by the author. We re-introduced the POWER READING program in November, and students access it online every Tuesday and Thursday. This program gives a fluency score as well as comprehension scores for vocabulary words and comprehension questions.
